• Any personal business needs. It is not possible to describe
everyone’s particular needs. Each person’s needs are different and should be treated in ways that are appropriate to each
person. This list has only addressed some common ones where people can use our assistance so that they do not have to worry
about their affairs being taken care of correctly.
• Paying bills and balancing account statements. Your mail contains
many kinds of bills. Some should be paid; some should not. We can determine which bills should be paid and when, and what
action should be taken regarding those that should not. We balance your checkbook, and reconcile your monthly account statements
to determine what your balance is on each account. We can organize and file all of this paperwork for future reference.
•
Reviewing dental and medical insurance claim forms. Medical service providers usually send a bill immediately to Medicare
and your supplemental insurance in order to be paid. They will usually send you a bill at the same time. However, such a bill
should not be paid until Medicare and the supplemental insurance have paid first. We can keep track of who has and has not
paid first before you pay anything so that you do not pay too much.
• Making phone calls. Writing personal and business
letters. There are situations where you need to communicate with companies to purchase items, return items, and straighten
out billing problems. We can make those calls and write letters that will lead to a resolution of purchasing issues. We can
also communicate for you with your family and friends through writing letters and sending e-mails.
• Scheduling appointments.
Running errands. You may need to schedule and go to a medical provider, to a store or order goods or services that you
need. There may be times when you are not able to or desire to purchase some items yourself. We can obtain and deliver them
for you or take you to your appointments and places of business.
• Assembling income and deductible expenses for tax
form preparation. Retaining and organizing all of the many kinds of invoices, receipts and other pieces of paper that may
pertain to a tax deduction can be complex. Some pieces of paper need to be retained while others can be shredded and disposed
of instead to protect your privacy (identity). We can sort through the paperwork and set up a filing system to keep track
of these items so they can be readily retrieved when needed.
• Advocates at nursing homes. When you or another family
member needs assisted living care or nursing home care someone needs to oversee what is being done by a caregiver. Often there
is a need for someone to speak up for the best interests of the resident because the person being cared for is not able to
speak for oneself. We can speak for those who need a voice and communicate their needs to the staff and administrators, as
well as attend care conferences and report your needs to your family.
• Getting estimates for home repairs. House checking
when you are on vacation. When you live in your own home there can seem to be no end to keeping a residence in good working
order. We can make recommendations of reputable repair providers and supervise small jobs to completion while obtaining a
reasonable rate so that you are not being gouged.
• Securing your benefit rights when they are disputed. There are
times when you may not receive income, a refund, or other payment you are due. We can communicate with individuals and organizations
to resolve disputes that can be upsetting and frustrating.
• Coordinating relocation from current home to new housing. There
are many reasons for moving from one residence to another. We can help you work through your particular needs and help you
select from a number of options to obtain housing that meets your needs and work with vendors to clean out what is left.
•
Preparing asset inventories to establish a budget, financial plan, will, trust, net worth, etc. Listing one’s personal
investments in one place requires organized documentation. Accurate and comprehensive reports are required in order to know
a person’s sources of income and what expenses are being made. We can help you have peace of mind knowing what your financial
situation is and where your money is being used.
• Coordinating the planning funeral details. One of the most sensitive
areas of personal business is planning a funeral. There is often a certain dread of even talking about the topic, as if talking
about it would hasten the coming of someone’s death. We can help document and communicate with funeral directors regarding
the wishes of individuals and families for planning the various parts of an appropriate funeral.
• Computer work. Maintaining
lists, for example, name and address data bases, can easily be done on a computer so that when it comes time to do a mailing,
envelopes and letters can be easily prepared. Likewise, spreadsheets are very helpful in maintaining account balances and
preparing net worth and other financial statements.
